988 Day: A Day of Action and Awareness
Today is the second annual 988 Day, a day of action to raise awareness and excitement about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (988 Lifeline/988) through creative activities led by communities, organizations, and individuals. This year’s theme, Compassionate Help. Anytime. Anywhere., conveys what the 988 Lifeline is all about: empathy, accessibility, and reliability.

We’re excited to see how people across the country are celebrating 988 Day! Whatever you’re doing and however you’re participating, be sure to capture the moment—take photos and videos and share them on social media using #988Day. Your posts will appear on our #988Day Social Media Wall alongside activities from communities nationwide.
The 988 Lifeline is available 24/7 by call, text, or chat to support anyone experiencing a mental health concern, for themselves or someone close to them. Some reasons that people reach out for help are: thoughts of suicide, drug or alcohol use, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, mental illness, loneliness, trauma, bullying, stress, relationship challenges, or just needing someone to talk to.
When you contact the 988 Lifeline, you’re connected to a skilled, compassionate counselor—a real person who will listen without judgment, offer support, and share resources, if needed. The 11,000+ counselors in our 988 network are 988’s heart. In talking with people every day, they help reduce barriers and stigma around seeking mental health, suicide, and substance-use support.
If you haven’t yet planned to participate today, you can grab some quick resources to post about 988 on your social media. Visit 988DayToolkit.org for resources and tools.
