When Justin first arrived at the Bronx Adolescent Skills Center (ASC), he was determined to change the direction of his life and finally earn his GED.
Expecting a rigid and discouraging environment like what he had experienced in traditional school settings, he instead found something unexpected: a welcoming, supportive community that met him with patience, encouragement, and respect. With the guidance of dedicated staff like Ms. Jones and a team committed to helping every participant succeed, he began to rebuild his confidence and move toward a future that he’s proud of.
Finding My Path

When I first started at the Bronx ASC, I was desperately trying to turn my life around and finally graduate. I was willing to push myself through whatever grueling GED program I could find and was glad when I was approved at this site.
I was preparing myself for a struggle similar to that of public school, but what I didn’t expect was the friendly environment that the Bronx ASC offered.
My teacher, Ms. Jones, played a pivotal role in supporting me during my time at the Bronx ASC. No matter what position we were in and what place we started from, she helped and encouraged not just me, but all of my peers to do the best that we possibly could.
However, it’s not just Ms. Jones. The entirety of the staff at the Bronx ASC is very pleasant and helpful. They are nice people and ensure the students have what they need throughout the day.
Ever since I graduated from the Bronx ASC, I have been pursuing my career goal of becoming an electrician. To accomplish this goal, I have been attending Co-op Technical, a school where multiple trades are taught and learned. I am taking a class in electrical installation, which has been going great so far.
I have learned many things, and I am very grateful for the opportunity. I have been attending since February, and I am set to graduate by February next year.
Ultimately, the Bronx ASC has been a huge help academically as well as vocationally. I recommend this program to anyone who is in a similar situation to me, where public school for one reason or another doesn’t work out.

We work directly with people at all stages of life to offer support, connect them to the services they need, and help them build fulfilling lives.
