Before someone can reach out for help, they first need to know where to turn.

At Vibrant Emotional Health, we believe suicide prevention begins long before someone is in crisis. It starts by making support easy to find, easy to remember, and easy to trust.

Access is what makes help and connection reachable. It means knowing where to go, believing support is for you, and trusting that someone competent and compassionate will be there when you need them.

If someone doesn’t know support exists—or doesn’t believe it’s for them—they cannot be expected to reach for it during one of the hardest moments of their life. Every barrier between a person and care is an opportunity for prevention.

“The mental health care system doesn’t make it easy for people to seek the care and support they need. Often, we put that burden mostly on the person trying to seek care.”

– Dr. Cara A. McNulty, CEO, Vibrant Emotional Health

Make Help Easier To Find

One of the biggest barriers to getting help is simply knowing where to turn.

Making help easier to find means:

•   Building systems people can rely on

•   Connecting people to care before, during, and after crisis

•   Removing barriers that keep support out of reach

For more than 55 years, Vibrant has designed and strengthened the systems people rely on during life’s hardest moments.

Instead of navigating several separate programs, help seekers are welcomed into an ecosystem of well-being services that work together.

One of those pathways is the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Many people know the 988 Lifeline as the number to call, text, or chat during a mental health crisis, but it’s also available for emotional support, help for a loved one, and connections to local resources. As the administrator, Vibrant provides the training, technology, and operational support that make compassionate, culturally competent care available 24/7.

Make Help Easier To Remember

Knowing where to turn only matters if you can remember it when you need it. Replacing a 10-digit phone number with the simple, three-digit number 988 removed a barrier during one of the moments when thinking clearly can be hardest.

Since July 2022, more than 26 million contacts have been made to the 988 Lifeline—nearly six times the number received by the previous lifeline during the five years before the transition, reinforcing that when help is easier to remember, more people can reach it.

“Communities play a vital role in strengthening both 988 and the broader behavioral health crisis care system so that people have someone to contact, someone to respond, and a safe place for help.”

– Wendy Martinez Farmer, VP, 988 Strategy, Grants and Clinical Standards National Programs, Vibrant Emotional Health

Through Vibrant programs like Family & Youth Peer Support Services and the Adolescent Skills Centers, peer support specialists help children, young people, and families build resilience long before a crisis occurs.

Peer specialists bring lived experience alongside professional expertise, offering guidance from someone who has walked a similar path. This also introduces more providers into the system, helping reduce the service gap between those who need care and those who can access it.

“They take the time to listen, to understand what you’re going through, what you’re saying, and what you’re feeling. It’s a different type of support.”

– Yasmin, Family & Youth Peer Support Program Participant, Vibrant Emotional Health

Through the HERE2HELP CONNECT®, Vibrant also operates specialized helplines connecting help seekers to immediate support and resources across diverse communities and industries, including music, education, and more. These lines allow individuals to connect with high-quality care that’s tailored to them.

National Suicide Prevention Month

When people feel seen, supported, and connected, they are better able to build healthy relationships at home, work, school, and within their communities.

Our 2026 National Suicide Prevention Month campaign is built around our philosophy that suicide prevention begins long before a moment of crisis.

Vibrant is committed to designing the systems, partnerships, and community infrastructure that make mental health support easier to find, easier to remember, and easier to trust—because we know that help only works if people can reach it.
