Congress Approves National Suicide Prevention Designation Act
The U.S. Congress today, September 21st, 2020, approved the adoption of 988, the new three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. This is an important development for mental health and crisis services nationwide. Vibrant Emotional Health released the following statement regarding this important development:
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) expects the transition to the 988 phone number to be completed by July, 2022. Until then, the current number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – 1-800-273-8255 – will remain in effect in all 50 states.
